Achieving Quality Hypertension Care: Missing the Low-Hanging Fruit in Quality Improvement
Term of Approval: December 2012 through December 2013. Original release date: December 2012.
The Duke CERT recently published a study reporting that up to 1/3 of patients followed routinely by cardiologists in clinic had suboptimally controlled blood pressure, with wide variability in performance across individual clinicians.
This free CME activity describes the reasons for failure to achieve blood pressure control at the patient and provider levels and outlines strategies for managing uncontrolled hypertension. This CME activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.
Warfarin Communication Toolkit
Term of Approval: July 2012 through July 2014. Original release date: July 2010.
This free continuing education activity for nurses was developed by the HMORN CERT to introduce a new communication tool based on the principles of effective standardized communication. The activity teaches nurses how to use the tool to improve their communication with physicians about warfarin. The skills taught in this activity, however, have applications for other clinical areas as well—this method has been used to address a variety of communication challenges in diverse settings. The supplemental materials in this activity include exercises and tools to promote implementation of the techniques introduced in the presentations.
